Curriculum

Massage Therapy

Training to be a massage therapist is a combination of study and practical skills.  Each week the curriculum will provide a greater understanding of the human body and how it works with practical training in the skills of a therapist.

The classes will provide an in-depth understanding of anatomy and physiology, exercise science and nutrition.  Students will receive extensive training regarding the “maps of the body” -- learning both the traditional Western perspective (nerves, muscles, organs, etc.) as well as the Eastern perspective of the body (chakras and meridians).

In the holistic integration classes students will learn how to touch and evaluate the physical body.  They will practice Swedish massage, neuromuscular massage and lymph massage, and acquire competency in Craniosacral Balancing and Acupressure.  By the conclusion of the third term, students will be proficient at bodywork and ready to become nationally certified.

Holistic Healthcare: The Mental and Emotional Aspects

In this program students will study Developmental Psychology, Health Psychology, Counseling, Abnormal Psychology, and Professional Ethics.

They will learn how to evaluate a person's present state and facilitate process work that will lead the person to resolution of mental conflicts and emotional issues.  They will begin to learn the art of dialoging with others to produce useful information and arrive at wisdom and insight.

Bodywork skills will be refined and enhanced as students learn to identify areas of the body where the energy flow is blocked or congested.  They will learn how our personal history and our life issues are stored in the body.  They will experience how their own history creates issues that block and alter the structural integrity of the body.

At the completion of this training the students will be able to aid in the processing of mental and emotional issues.  They will offer support to people who are undergoing psychotherapy or behavior modification.  Their Certificate in Holistic Practices: The Mental and Emotional Aspects, will enable them to establish a private practice as bodyworkers who specialize in process work to clear the mental and emotional aspects of the person.
